Gabe
Gabe

Gabe Gartrell, Project Manager at A Fairer World brings with her a kaleidoscope of skills and a long history of activism. As a catalyst for change Gabe started her career saving The Fitzroy River, working for an NGO called Environs Kimberley, whilst completing her undergrad degree at Notre Dame University in Broome.

On completing her studies Gabe was awarded the honour of valedictorian, co-delivering the valedictory speech with peer and role-model Bunuba Elder Junie Oscar.

Moving to Tasmania to chase career dreams, Gabe took on the role of Campaign Manager for Amnesty International Tasmania, working on International Human Rights Campaigns, and advocating for Indigenous and Refugee rights.

A strong believer in the power of community and grass roots led social change, saw Gabe shift careers, this time to co-lead a team of change makers in establishing a thriving community garden in Dodges Ferry, pioneering social enterprising, growing food and cultivating meaningful living.

Gabe’s commitment to equity landed her on the board of Surfing Tasmania, establishing pay equity across gender for the sport in 2020. She currently sits on the board of Mature Artist Dance Company as treasurer.

Most recently Gabe has returned to formal study and is finishing a master’s in creative writing at the University of Sydney where she is researching the importance of writing and ritual, in navigating the unspoken terrain of grief.

Dancer and poet, Gabe has collaborated and performed at major festivals, on many a stage, here on the island, including at our very own MONA, and most recently with award-winning choreographer Stephenie Lake, in MASS MOVEMENT, the opening event for the Adelaide Festival. Gabe’s commitment to (living meaningfully) joy, community and creativity inspires us all to create a fairer world.
